An ocean liner on its way from the port of Baltimore, Maryland to Norfolk, US ran aground (resting at the bottom) after missing a turn in the Chesapeake Bay.

As of Tuesday, 30th of March, only 5 tugs have been able to free the ship – two pulling on the starboard side, two pushing on the port side, and one long pull from the stern.

Port of Baltimore Executive Director William Doyle announced previously that a second attempt would be made in the coming days using two anchoring barges and five tugs.

William Doyle shared the Ever Forward salvage plan in a tweet that referred to “coming days” as being the 6th of April 2022.

  • On April 6, 2022, two pull barges will be anchored astern of the EVER FORWARD so the staging of equipment for further pulling evolutions and container removal operations can begin.

  • However, the anchoring systems for the westernmost pull barge will be in the federal channel and the eastern edge of the channel for the other.

  • In addition, two crane barges will be placed on the port and starboard sides of the EVER FORWARD to assist with container offloading. These anchoring systems will be marked by buoys with a flashing white light (Fl W 2s).

According to the US Coast Guard, salvage specialists determined that the Ever Forward won’t be able to float once the containers are removed from the vessel. Once the containers are removed, crews will try again to float the vessel.

According to reports, barges will transport containers to Seagirt Marine Terminal in Baltimore, where tugs and pull barges will attempt to float the Ever Forward. Depending on a variety of factors, including weather and the ease of offloading of the containers, the US Coast Guard expects the operation to take about two weeks.

With this attempt, the Ever Forward will hopefully be freed and will continue its journey.
