Shanghai Port Lockdown Update

On the 28th of March 2022, a lockdown was imposed in Pudong and a few other key districts of Shanghai. A 1,200 sq km area on the eastern bank of the Huangpu River, along with key districts of Jinshan, Fengxian, Chongming, and parts of Minhang, went into lockdown on Monday, followed by Puxi on the western bank.

Yangshan port customs inspected aircraft spare parts late into the night after learning of the lockdown, to ensure that the aircraft manufacturing company could do a flight test. On Monday, Yangshan customs accepted more than 370 import and export declaration documents. Waigaoqiao port customs processed 350 import and export declaration documents. Port officials noted that business volumes were not affected.

Marine Traffic reports that 1086 ships arrived in Shanghai within the last 24 hours. There are currently 2251 ships in Shanghai and another 587 vessels scheduled to call at Shanghai. Customers of Maersk have been advised that they remain fully operational. Port terminals in the area are operating as usual, including vessel operation, yard handling, and gate in and out operations are closely monitored.

As a result of the full lockdown on both the Pudong and Puxi areas of Shanghai, Maersk has warned that trucking services will be severely impacted by about 30% due to which warehouses in Shanghai will remain closed. There are concerns that exporters will experience delays during the lockdown due to the impact on truckers, staff, and warehouses.
